Double Breakthrough!
Zoomlion DV3504 Hybrid Tractor Shortlisted for Two Categories of TOTY 2027
Zoomlion’s DV3504 hybrid tractor earned nominations in two categories of the “Tractor of the Year 2027 (TOTY 2027)”: HighPower (over 300 hp) and Sustainable. This marks the first time a Chinese high-horsepower tractor has made it to the final shortlist of the TOTY awards since the competition’s inauguration in 1998, filling a nearly 30-year void of zero nominations for Chinese heavy-duty agricultural machinery in this prestigious contest.
Why Zoomlion DV3504?
Unlike most industry peers that trial pure electric technology on medium-and-light horsepower tractors,
Zoomlion has strategically invested in hybrid power for high-horsepower agricultural machinery, fully aligned with real-world farming operational demands. Agricultural equipment often runs under full load for extended shifts, with high-horsepower tractors frequently operating over 20 hours daily. Pure electric models face notable limitations including insufficient range, unfavourable vehicle weight distribution and sustained power degradation at low temperatures, preventing full replacement of diesel engines. Hybrid technology, by contrast, balances long operational endurance, powerful torque output and reasonable system costs, perfectly suited for high-intensity, long-duration farming tasks.
The DV3504 hybrid tractor embodies this core technological strategy.
Rated at 350 hp, it is equipped with Zoomlion’s self-developed MiDD (Meshed intelligent Direct Drive) distributed intelligent electric drive system. The MiDD multi-motor direct-drive architecture independently powers three core modules – vehicle travel, PTO power take-off and hydraulic output – delivering true modular continuously variable transmission with approximately 70% fewer mechanical transmission components.
Crucially, the DV3504 is not an isolated flagship model.
Crucially, the DV3504 is not an isolated flagship model. Zoomlion has built a comprehensive hybrid tractor product portfolio spanning 160 hp (DL1604), 260 hp (DQ2604) and 350 hp (DV3504). Furthermore, the DX7004 – the world’s highest-horsepower wheeled hybrid tractor with a peak output of 1,200 hp – made its overseas premium market debut in April 2026.
High-end·Global·New energy
Zoomlion Agriculture Machinery adheres to an integrated development strategy centred on “High-end·Global·New energy”. Rather than building its farm equipment business from scratch, the brand leverages cross-industry advantages spanning construction machinery technology, manufacturing expertise, talent pools and industrial supply chains to advance the shift of agricultural equipment toward hybrid power and intelligent operaation.
What Is TOTY?
Launched in 1998, Tractor of the Year (TOTY) is a globally recognised, highly authoritative third-party non-profit professional award for agricultural machinery, independently hosted by Italy’s agricultural machinery publication Trattori. The jury panel for this year’s edition comprises 26 impartial professional agricultural machinery journalists from 25 nations with no corporate affiliations.
Judging metrics cover six core dimensions: power system, transmission, hydraulics, intelligent electronic control, operator comfort and proprietary technology. Additional emphasis is placed on low-carbon energy conservation and new energy innovation capacity to deliver a comprehensive, fair assessment of each machine’s overall performance.
The 2027 competition features six specialised, high-threshold categories with distinct competitive focuses:HighPower (300 hp and above), MidPower (150–280 hp), Utility (70–150 hp general-purpose tractors),Specialized (orchard, vineyard and hillside dedicated machinery),TotYBot (autonomous intelligent agricultural equipment),Sustainable TOTY (special category for sustainable innovation).
The HighPower category targets heavy tillage, deep loosening and high-load operations on large-scale commercial farms, representing the core competitive arena for premium heavy-duty agricultural machinery globally.
The Sustainable TOTY category carries unique prestige. Per official rules, brands cannot submit separate applications for this division, with no preferential commercial channels available. Candidates are exclusively selected secondarily from machines that pass all field tests across the other five categories. Judges prioritise proprietary low-carbon technologies including hybrid power, electric drive and intelligent energy management systems, evaluating equipment performance in energy consumption reduction, emission cuts and operational efficiency.
